Prevent indexing certain paths

If you enable this policy setting you specify a list of paths to exclude from indexing. The user cannot enter any path that starts with one of the paths you specified. If you enable and then disable this policy setting users can index any path not restricted by other policies but their original list of paths to index is not restored.

Additional Information

  1. Registry path is:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Policies -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Windows Search -> PreventIndexingCertainPaths

  2. The Administrative Template path is:

    Windows Components -> Search

Notes

* Making mistakes while changing registry values can affect your system adversely. We recommend you to create a System Restore point before making registry manipulation. If you're new to Registry Editor, read this beginner's guide.
